One of the benefits of being a technology coach is that I get to watch tremendous growth with my teachers. One my Science teachers, Terry, is the epitome of a growth mindset. The amount of growth she has made has been amazing to watch. Terry ALWAYS tries new things. She has been teaching for 37 years, and to see a veteran teacher embrace technology warms a coaches' heart.
Recently, one of the projects I've been assisting Terry with is her storytelling project. She was apprehensive to do this project, but after seeing her storyboard and discussing what movie-making tool would benefit her the most, she has embraced the project with enthusiasm. Last week, I met with Terry and we decided that iMovie would be her best technology tool. She was nervous, as she felt it was a bit too complicated. I showed her a few things and then told her to try a few things on her own and I would be back if she needed help. She asked me to come see her, today. She was frustrated and felt like she wanted to give up. We talked about her frustrations and I showed her a few tricks (bringing a mouse, instead of track pad solved many, many issues). I am so excited to see her finished project. Since I won't have the product before this profile is completed, I don't have an artifact, but as soon as I do, I will post it.
Coaching teachers such as Terry helps me to realize how tirelessly teachers work for their students. I hope to be as effective as I witness them being every day with their students. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I LOVE my job!
